Kaskade was born Ryan Gary Raddon in Chicago, Illinois, on February 25, 1971. He grew up in nearby Northbrook and attended Glenbrook North High School. Inspired by a fellow student’s DJing, he began deejaying at high school parties.
After high school, Raddon attended Brigham Young University in Utah for a brief period of time and studied film and art. He returned to Chicago and continued deejaying. Eventually, he moved to San Francisco where he got a job in the multimedia department at the city’s largest record store, the nearly legendary DJ-oriented San Francisco-based store, and got a residency at a local club.
With a new moniker inspired by a nature book, he began releasing music in 2001, and eventually released his first album, It’s You, It’s Me, on the Om Records label in 2003.
